White Powder In Kleenex

Pope urged solidarity with immigrants

By Giovanna Chirri VENICE, 8 (Bloomberg) - "From despair to hope," "fear" to "fellowship, sharing, solidarity, with a strong identity that allow dialogue, said today Pope Benedict XVI in Mestre, the first public Mass of his trip to northeastern Italy.
Benedict XVI, 84, made a two-day pastoral visit in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where he celebrated Mass outdoors today in Mestre.
The pontiff urged not to be swayed by "the fear of others', compared with about 300 thousand faithful gathered in the town near Venice, for the papal Mass in San Julian Park, which was recited in several languages.
The Pope, in a call to welcome new immigrants, urged Catholics not to give "the fear of others, foreigners and people who come from afar." called on Catholics to "give an account of Christian hope in modern man, often immersed in problems disturbing and large, they put in crisis the foundations of his being and his action. "
The Pope chose that tone at the end of your trip this weekend, the 22nd. in Italy, while from the south came dramatic news like shipwreck off the coast of Libya in a boat with 600 people on board, trying to reach European shores fleeing conflicts in Africa. "We must promote and defend the truth with courage and unity of faith," he said and waved the dedication of those involved in a "new evangelization" as Communion and Liberation, Focolare, among others.
