Stop State Violence against Children Mapuche!
Network of NGOs for Children and Youth of Chile (Roija), which brings together over 40 NGOs working for the promotion and protection of the rights of children and youth in the country, in conjunction with the Foundation ANIDE , an institution that is doing work to repair the damage suffered psycho-social children Mapuche communities in conflict with the State, military police violence against their communities, state the following.
As part of a hunger strike carried out by 34 Mapuche, including two underage teens for more than 67 days, was made on 15 September 0600 a violent raid in the Mapuche Lof Chekenco where 6 were arrested.
As institutions that work towards protecting the rights of children, we want to relieve the public that two of the six Mapuche detainees are minors. Jacinto is Marín Marín, 16 years old, and Pereira Leonardo Quijón 17 years of age. Note that Jacinto Marin was arrested at his home, and was brutally beaten by police at the time of his arrest. As Leonardo Quijón he had been arrested by the PDI on December 10, 2009, spending 6 months in juvenile prison accused Chol Chol Terrorism Act. He was then acquitted by the prosecution for lack of evidence against him. At the time of his arrest, Leonardo was with his lawyer in the trial Collipulli facing military justice remains for the same acts for which he was acquitted because the prosecution.
Although, both teenagers were left released, raised concerns about the detention of children and young people accused of Terrorism Act, and the constant police harassment suffered by the communities, leaving children with clear symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
also denounced in the raid conducted by the military police to the house of Jacinto Marin on September 15, they seized multiple objects and species, which have inmunopresoras drug Jacinto's sister, Jacqueline Marín Marín seven-year-old, who was recently transplanted a kidney in the San Juan de Dios Hospital, located in the city of Santiago. This is extremely serious, since the life of the child depends on to continue his medical treatment in optimal conditions.
Therefore, we urge the government to meet the demands of the Mapuche people, among which include the repeal of the Patriot Act, freedom of all Mapuche political prisoners, in order to double prosecution for civil and military justice and demilitarization area. Furthermore, we propose our deepest concern over the prosecution of children for Terrorism Law, a situation that contravenes the commitments made by Chile with the firm 20 years ago the International Convention on the Rights of Children.
We appeal directly to the National Youth Service to meet their responsibilities and guarantee human rights Mapuche children and adolescents facing this grave situation.
